Her multifaceted journey is one of learning and endless potential.
Coming from a single-parent, economically disadvantaged background, Udaya experienced a year-long break in education and had to repeat eighth grade. She was frustrated and was struggling academically.
"When I first came to Baale Mane," Udaya recalls, "even though my younger sisters were here, I felt alone and was missing my mother. Everything was so new – living with so many girls, following a new routine." At Baale Mane she found more than just a home – but also a support system. The other girls at Baale became her friends through kindness and cracking jokes with Udaya.
"The teachers, my classmates, caregivers, and the other Baale girls – they all encouraged me to study well." With dedicated tutors and supportive peers, Udaya began to do well in school. She worked diligently on her spellings, mathematics, and other subjects. She gained confidence as kept learning. “I’m doing well in subjects that I didn’t score good marks,” she shares.
Now, 10th grader Udaya is about to write her board examinations with a clear vision for her future. Her goal - a perfect 625/625 score. She dreams of pursuing computer science in Pre-University College, followed by a Bachelor's and Master's in Computer Science. "The world revolves around IT," she says passionately. "I want to work in a big company or in government in this field."
Udaya enjoys most of the programmes at Baale Mane. One of her favourites is the art and craft sessions where zen tangling, building terrariums, making earrings, and painting helps her relax and find a sense of calm.
Her passion for technology ignited during the annual computer learning program. Udaya’s curiosity about computers and ethical hacking grew. "The world revolves around IT," she says with enthusiasm, excited about her future in the world of technology.
Udays has always played sports. Before Baale Mane, the only team sport she was familiar with was cricket. Now, she's a versatile athlete, representing her school in volleyball, throwball, and shotput at taluk and cluster levels. Her achievements include winning several medals, but for Udaya, the true joy lies in the reset sports provide. "It refreshes my mind," she explains with a bright smile. "I feel like I can study better when I play."
Even during her crucial 10th standard year, she makes time for throwball in the evenings, playing with friends at Baale Mane. She's already looking forward to exploring more sporting opportunities in Pre-University College, it as a crucial part of her holistic development. For Udaya, sports are not just a pastime, but a fundamental aspect of her personal growth and well-being.
